Streamlining Success Through BIM: Coordination and As-built Model Development on the Auckland International Airport Works Package 2 Project

Over the past few months, our team working on the Auckland International Airport Works Package 2 Project has been having weekly BIM coordination meetings with our trade partners. We have been working hard to progressively align the building services and structural steel packages as we move forward.

We have just wrapped up this coordination phase, and now the services installation is well underway. We successfully identified and addressed coordination issues using the federated model in our Common Data Environment, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). This platform has been a game-changer, making it easy for everyone involved – our project team, design and trade partners, and our client, Auckland International Airport Ltd – to access the most up-to-date project model without needing complex BIM tools or hardware. It has been crucial for getting a highly coordinated set of shop drawings and ensuring a smooth installation process on site.

Right now, we are focused on developing As-built models for the client. Auckland International Airport Limited has detailed requirements for asset information to support their facilities management and capital works programs. The models we provide will reflect the as-built condition and include all the data AIAL needs for their digital operations. We are making great progress and have already received positive feedback from AIAL on the quality and completeness of our initial WIP As-built model submission.
