McConnell Dowell is pleased to announce that a McConnell Dowell and Built Environs joint venture has been awarded the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract for the Puhinui Station Interchange.
The Puhinui Interchange is a key component of the Southwest Gateway, a programme aimed at enhancing public transport connectivity between Auckland Airport and the CBD. It is also a catalyst for wider bus and rail connections to enable more sustainable transport modes.
This contract means McConnell Dowell and Built Environs are integral to the design phase, before construction begins later in 2019.
McConnell Dowell Managing Director for New Zealand and Pacific, Fraser Wyllie welcomed the announcement, saying, “Together, McConnell Dowell and Built Environs have a strong track record of delivering rail projects such as the Western Program Alliance, Gold Coast Light Rail, City Rail Link Contract 2 and the North Melbourne Station Upgrade.
We are excited and look forward to working closely with Auckland Transport to deliver a safe, innovative and sustainable transport network for the region.”
Auckland Transport Chief Executive Shane Ellison said, “It’s fantastic to have the McConnell Dowell – Built Environs Joint Venture involved early so we can focus on delivering the upgraded Puhinui Station Interchange. By early 2021 we’ll have a modern, new interchange at Puhinui, with direct, fast and frequent bus services running every 10 minutes along priority lanes.”
This project showcases the internal collaboration of McConnell Dowell and Built Environs of how diverse parts of the business with capability, infrastructure, design and construction can work together, further cementing the reputation and standing of the business as a whole.
The works consist of:
- Demolishing the existing Puhinui Station footbridge
- Construction of high-quality fit out, at-grade bus area including shelter, kiss and ride parking, cycle shelter and landscaping, an elevated concourse with vertical transportation (stairs, lifts and escalators), and HOP ticket gateline, staff and retail facilities.
