Last week, our Built Environs graduates and undergraduates visited Hallett Group Pty Ltd’s Port Adelaide Green Cement Distribution facility. We witnessed Hallett’s groundbreaking work in revolutionising the cement industry!
A highlight was Australia’s first dome silo, currently under construction at Berth 25, Port Adelaide Inner Harbour, capable of holding 52,000 tons of cementitious materials—equivalent to around 38 grain silos! The innovative world-first drive-through dome allows trucks to be loaded inside the silo using a dynamic blending and dispatch system. This allows for on-the-spot blending of up to four different cements and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), providing flexibility to support lower-carbon concrete solutions in South Australia.
Integrated with Hallett’s Green Cement Processing facility in Port Augusta, this facility promotes sustainable construction by converting industrial byproducts into valuable materials, creating a true circular economy in SA.
A huge thanks to Hallett for hosting us and showcasing the future of sustainable building materials. Exciting times ahead for the industry!
