Working together to build a better future for travellers at Auckland Airport
Built Environs and McConnell Dowell, in a joint venture, successfully delivered the East Airfield Building Relocation Project for Auckland International Airport.
This complex project (as part of the preparation works for the future extension of the Auckland Airport) involved the construction of:
- A transitional waste facility for processing aircraft solid wastes
- An effluent waste facility for processing aircraft liquid wastes
- ‘Checkpoint Charlie,’ a security building managing access between landside and airside areas
- The relocation of the livestock inspection facility building for the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and the construction of a new single-span shed
Set within the Auckland International Airport, the project posed significant challenges due to its high-risk environment and the need to coordinate with multiple stakeholders. It was a critical component of the airport’s 30-year Terminal Development Plan, where any delays could have had significant repercussions.
Fast Facts:
- A highly complex project due to the high-risk environment and the involvement of multiple stakeholders
