Major upgrades for the inner north-west, providing more enrolment places

Built Environs delivered the upgrades for the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) at Mount Alexander College and Flemington Primary School as part of the Flemington Education Plan. This investment will provide more enrolment places and improved learning opportunities for local students.

At Mount Alexander College, works included demolition of an existing trade building, a new 5-storey building, a new canteen, lift and amenity upgrades, and new services infrastructure.

At Flemington Primary School, works included 2,220 m2 of external landscape, upgraded junior and senior play areas, a 660 m2 central community space, an amphitheatre, and tree planting.

Through this program of work, the local community will receive high-quality, seamless education from birth.

Creative Construction

The Mount Alexander College project was originally designed and tendered with curved feature precast panels as facade elements. During the tender period Built Environs’ team identified an opportunity to rationalise the design by integrating these curved precast concrete facade panels into the structure without compromising on the design intent.

This change enabled significant cost savings, increased and enhanced floor areas by removing the original internal concrete columns (following the integration of the precast panels into the structure) and improved efficiencies in the programme.
