Delivering a historic transformation for Richmond Football Club

The redevelopment will deliver a high-performance, inclusive precinct designed to meet the growing demands of the AFL, AFLW, and VFL programs.

Stage 1 works involve the construction of the new, larger Jack Dyer Stand, a re-aligned MCG-sized oval, and major upgrades to administration, training, and community facilities. The redevelopment has been carefully planned to respect heritage considerations, minimise disruption, and ensure future flexibility for Club growth.

Key features include:

  • State-of-the-art facilities for AFL, VFL, and AFLW programs
  • Increased spectator capacity, accommodating up to 8,000 fans
  • New underground shared parking for Punt Road and MCG event days
  • Expanded greenspace and improved community access to Yarra Park

Delivering approximately 19,233sqm of new and refurbished space, the project will future-proof Punt Road Oval as a premier destination for elite sport, education, and community engagement.

Construction will commence in mid-2025, and works will be staged to maintain critical football and Club operations throughout the construction period.

Creative Construction

During the tender period, Built Environs challenged the default use of tower cranes by undertaking a detailed cranage analysis. The result: a mobile crane strategy that offered greater flexibility, better suited the elongated Jack Dyer Stand, and allowed access from multiple orientations – front, rear, and north. This improved site logistics, enhanced scheduling, and delivered significant cost savings. The scalable nature of mobile cranage also enables concurrent lifts, helping maintain momentum and maximise efficiency throughout the build.
