The Australian institute of Building (AIB) recognised Built Environs’ excellence in construction at the national AIB awards night in Melbourne earlier this year.
The awards celebrate excellence in the building and construction process and the contribution that construction professionals make to creating better places for people to live, work and play.
The Oval Hotel team, led by Built Environs Project Manager Luke Goldup, received a High Commendation at the National AIB Professional Excellence Awards in the Residential Construction $25 - $60 million category.
The project also received a High Commendation at the 2021 SA AIB Professional Excellence Award for Residential Construction $25 - $60 million and the 2021 SA AIB People’s Choice Award.
Built Environs Project Manager Lucy Nicolson received the 2021 SA National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Project Achievement Award for her exceptional work and contribution to the construction industry on the Oval Hotel project. Lucy was the Senior Project Coordinator for the design and construction of the Oval Hotel.
Delivered in just over 12 months during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oval Hotel is the first hotel in Australia to be integrated into a stadium.
Constructed from cross laminated timber (CLT), the 138-room hotel is also one of the first buildings in Australia to utilise this lightweight and highly sustainable technology.
Construction works were carried out in coordination with stadium management to minimise impact on the Oval’s ongoing operations. More than 30 events were successfully held during construction.
Built Environs State Manager Tony Jachmann said the accolade endorsed the quality of the work managed by the Built Environs team.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the team that worked on this challenging project,” said Mr Jachmann.
“The Oval Hotel was a complex, high-profile project that was managed to a fixed deadline, within an operational environment. It’s great to see our team’s innovative approach, commitment to quality and unwavering customer focus recognised by our industry peers through this award.”
