The Modbury Hospital Health Precinct delivers contemporary mental health, cancer treatment and critical infrastructure to support the future healthcare needs of northern Adelaide.
Delivered under the GC21 Managing Contractor model, the project includes two purpose-built mental health facilities, a new Cancer Centre, critical infrastructure upgrades, a five-storey staff carpark and a link bridge connecting the new precinct to the existing hospital. Every stage was delivered within a fully operational hospital, ensuring uninterrupted clinical services while creating modern facilities designed around patients, staff and the wider community.

Our established relationships with SA Health, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport and hospital stakeholders provided continuity throughout planning and delivery, supporting informed decision-making and seamless integration with the live hospital environment.
Delivering within a live hospital
Construction took place immediately alongside a busy operational hospital, requiring careful planning to maintain access, protect patients and coordinate major infrastructure upgrades. Working closely with SA Health, consultants and hospital stakeholders, the team delivered critical services, new buildings and essential infrastructure without a single unplanned disruption to hospital operations.
Reducing noise with battery-powered lifting
To minimise disruption within the live hospital, the tower crane was powered using a large-scale battery system rather than a conventional diesel generator. The solution reduced noise, lowered emissions and maintained efficient construction while protecting the sensitive hospital environment.

The new health precinct combines specialist mental health services, cancer treatment and staff facilities within contemporary, purpose-built environments.
Natural light, landscaped outdoor spaces and anti-ligature design principles were carefully integrated throughout the mental health facilities, creating spaces that support patient wellbeing, recovery and long-term healthcare outcomes.
