The Whyalla Hospital in regional South Australia is an award-winning major health facility that underwent construction of a 6,000 m2 two level building and partial refurbishment of an existing 1980s building.
The redevelopment accommodates a regional cancer centre, rehabilitation care, medical ward space, surgical space and health services. In addition, 11 housing units were constructed to replace existing accommodation facilities, as well as providing car parking for 70 vehicles.
The project team sequenced the work to minimise disruption of the day-to-day functioning of the hospital and neighbouring businesses and residences, with communication and cooperation with hospital health and services staff, engagement with neighbouring businesses and residents key to the successful delivery of the hospital redevelopment.
